I used the Lucas Oil Heavy Duty Gear Oil and have been real happy with it.

Did some research

I did some research on changing mine since I have 260,000 miles and just had rear suspension rebuild done.

My very reputable parts man that most of the indy's use here in Raleigh NC and surrounding area (he used to be a service manager at a reputable dealership for 20years+) and knows his stuff says to only use straight 90weight. That's what came in the car. He also says the only lubricant he would put in his own 300D is Lubrication Engineers 90weight. He sells it and so does the dealership. It is the ONLY brand of lube the dealer will use. It is not as expensive as the Amsoil but is much better. It is German tested and approved and used extensively in Germany.

where can one buy this stuff. It sounds good. I was thinking of using valvoline because that is what they sell at the local parts store, but wasn't sure which weight to buy. The parts guy there recommended the 75-140 stuff.

Lubrication Engineers

Yes, I am doing the unthinkable. This is not an oil thread, but I only want the best for my car. Here goes.

I spoke with the engineers at Lubrication Enginners in Texas. I already posted their website in a previous reply to this post. I talked to my local sales rep after getting their number from the company.

Lubrication Engineers tells me that Mercedes was having problems with rear ends on new cars and having to change out the pinion gears four and five times before they were quiet enough for customers - until many of the dealers started using LE lubricants. Mr. Coker has sold this lube to Leith Mercedes in Raleigh, NC for over 30 years. He says it is all they will use. They are a very reputable dealership in North Carolina. Their service is par none!

LE representative tells me after working for LE for 30 years (he just retired at age 81 - his name is Joe Coker Phone 919-418-6213) that he has coast to coast truck drivers who have one million, three hundred thousand miles on over-road trucks that are running coast to coast using their LE 15W-40 oil and have never used oil or rebuilt an engine. It is changed in these trucks every 120k miles and filter is changed every 20k miles.

One trucker who switched from Rotella to Lubrication Engineers was using 9 gallons of oil running coast to coast. He switched and now only uses 3 gallons of oil on a west to east coast run and uses less fuel.

He told me in the car, the dealers don't use this oil because they want to make money. He said if I ran it in my 300sd to change the oil every 20,000 miles and the first filter change at 3,000 miles since it would clean the engine and send the mess into the filter, then change filter again at 10,000 and then change filter and oil at 20,000 miles. He said after this you could run thier oil for 20,000 miles and change filter every 10,000miles. He said his oil outperformed every oil on the market including Amsoil. He said the coast to coast truckers used the straight 90 weight 607 ALMASOL by LE Engineers in thier rear ends too.

I am switching with next oil change. and going to change differential as soon as I can get the product.

I looked on their website and it doesn't seem to have a place for submitting orders.
