Side view mirror 240D - I want to install one . . . .

On my '81 240D there is only a driver side rear view mirror. I would like to install one on the passenger side (if I can find one at the junk yard).

If anyone has done this, any gotchas I should look out for?

yes, it is easy, very helpful...and there are many threads about it.... check the archives...it is only about a ten minute job... and a couple of small tools...
If you are in a junk yard TRY to find the convex one... much more useful than the flat.

Thanks for the reply. I tried several searches before entering the question. I found threads that were for electric. I'll try some more searches.

Thanks again for the reply.

You just flip out the chrome piece on the inside .... then there are a couple of allen head screws... but I don't know the size wrench you need.. someone has probably posted exactly what to have in your hand when you go to the salvage yard....

The electric one will be MUCH more prevalent than the pass side adjustable one at the yards. Just install an electric one and stuff the wiring down in the door, snap crome piece on. That's what we did on our 240.

You'll have to open the window to adjust it by hand, but finding a pass side manual adjust might be difficult.

I think the screws are phillips- I have never seen anything else in all the ones I've done.

I'm switching mine (1982) to an electric on the passenger side. I broke my manual one and had an electric one available, so I'll run some wires and voila, no more reaching over to adjust, I can pretend I'm just like all you guys with 83 and up mercedes (Also switching over the newer style dome light as well!)

1998 E-320: My both side view mirror plastic covers or back are loose. How do you fix it or replace it? Instructions will be helpful. Thanks

Be careful "flipping out" the inside

[QUOTE=leathermang]You just flip out the chrome piece on the inside .... then there are a couple of allen head screws...

piece as I broke mine by using my knife blade at the very top peak of the chrome piece. The button(or whatever) is down about an inch or so. I think that if I had pried from there, it would not have cracked the plastic. PVC all purpose cement repaired it to almost new....
