My car came without a side mirror. I want to install one for my daughter's use, and the parts are available from PartsShop.
1)Is the installation tricky or just simply replace origional plate and bolt on?. 2)EXACTLY how do we remove the door panel? (I can remove the window crank handle) 3)From SEARCH I see some door panels glue on. Is this one of them? My daughter and I thank you very much for help. ------------------ Roger '75 240D 300000 miles |

Well the "triangle" where the mirror goes comes off without taking the door panel off, atleast in the w123, and i think the w115 is the same. It has a clip at the top that pops out, so just get a screwdriver under that and pry gentle, the top should pop out and the bottom just lifts out. After u take that off there are 3 screws holding the outside "triangle". Take these out and put the mirror in, less than 5 min job

Roger, I want to do the same thing with my '76 (for my daughter also), but balked at the $100+ price tag in a parts catalog. Could I ask much you paid for the mirror, and address or URL of your source? Thanks!

Thanks for your responses. Bart - I have had no luck in removing the Triangle. ![]() ![]() Larry D -- I haven't bought the mirror, since I've yet to establish that I have the smarts to install it myself. The parts section of this site sells a used one for a little over $200. ![]() ------------------ Roger '75 240D 300000 miles |

Yes, the inside triangle is the one you are tying to pry off. There is a clip holding it about an inch down from the top of it, having the window down helps. Slip a screw driver in there and toward the top and pry a bit. The top of it pops out toward the driver and then you just lift it out, shouldnt be too hard, and if you break it its no big deal, most likely you will break the clip if anything, which can be glued back on, but most likely if you buy a new mirror then it will come with a new inner triangle with a hole cut out in it for the adjustment, unless you get an electric one. Hope this helps.

AMGmercedes, you said adding an electric mirrow? I have an 1981 300D will dual manual mirrows. I don't think they even offered electric mirrow that year, but if I could replace with electric mirrows I would in a heart beat. At least on passenger side. Is it possible to do without a really major work effort?

It is possible to put in an electric mirror on the passanger side, driver side isnt electric on most mercedes until the 90's. I put an electric mirror in the 240D and it was fairly straight forward(dont know if one is avalible for a w115, but for w123 definitly). You will need a switch that goes in the center consol and the wiring harness for it, I cut mine out of a wrecked car, but im pretty sure you will able to get it from the dealer if you cant find a wrecked car. Then you install the new mirror, run the wiring harness to the center console, get 12 volts to it, and a ground (easy, chassis). So thats it, not too hard, you would have to take out the console around the gearshift, the passanger side panel under the glovebox, and the passanger side door panel in order to run the harness( 3 wires going to the mirror I think). So maybe an hour total if you take your time

I too would like to install power mirrors in my 116 1980 450 SEL. Based on what I'm reading here, I should be able to do it. Comments/suggestion would be appreciated. Closest recycler is Potomac German. Any other suggestions?

Also have an 81 300D. If you upgrade to electric right side mirror, would you be interested in selling your manual one--I'm just over in northern Va. |

I have used mirror installed. Thanks every one for the help.
![]() No problems at all with installation. I cleaned the moving parts with WD40 and then lightly lubed them. It works better than the left side, so now I'm told the left side mirror is too hard to adjust ![]() Larry D : Used mirror $105.50 total shipped from the benzbin.com These babys seem to be scarce. Took a while to find one in stock in that price range.
