Good luck with that....

To my knowledge, there was never a 2.2Turbo engine available from the factory. I'm not familiar with all the European models, so it's possible that there was some Euro model with this engine.

The 2.5Turbo engine was only available in '87 in the W201 cars.

If the 2.2 Turbo swap is possible, you might be the first one to complete it.

There is no kit available.

The Finns have done it, but it's all custom DIY work--no kits that I'm aware of.

Jetmugg and H202 !
Thank you very much!

Do you have photo of 2.5 Turbo - header with Turbo.
I like to see - I have photo from 3L Turbo.
Is possible to weld Cast-Iron manifold ?
I am thinking to modified the stock one from 2.5L Turbo.

Regards.

I have one in my garage.

I happen to have a complete 2.5 Turbo car in my garage. I can take some pics. You "might" be able to weld an iron manifold, but I wouldn't bank on it. It depends on how much/what kind of welding is required. If you are getting that deep into a project, I would think that you might be better off to fabricate a tubular steel exhaust header for your needs.

It sounds like it would be a major project. If you go for it, take lots of pics and post a lot of details.

My own project is simple in comparison - replacing the broken automatic trans. in the 2.5T with a 5-speed manual.

Thank you Steve.
Yes you are right, make new manifold - I am thinking same way.
On 5cyl.manifold I believe need cut out the fifth one.
One way looks more easy the other way may be more complicated.
To make new manifold - need Turbo and to the head attach flange.
I don't know if this flanges I can get ready.
To make them all new, cuts and weld is taking lots of time and can cost me lots of money.
I am Electronic.Mercedes Benz is my life - I own at present time
190D 2.2 - 260E and ML320E.
My hobby time, weekends I try to due what I can.

Regards.

I'd be willing to bet that header was homemade. I've seen other pics of Finns detailing the entire process of crafting those things completely from scratch. VAG exhaust ports are a different shape and spacing, so they ain't gonna work. I still don't know how they modified an NA pump to meter extra fuel under the boost curve.

Those Finns are amazing.

If we could get those guys to post in English, we could learn a lot from them. It must be the long winters that make car crafters in Finland, Norway, Sweden, etc. so creative and innovative. I have seen some very cool cars come from Scandanavia.

Check the thickness of the steel on that header flange. Very nice work.

Just curious, was the 1987 2.5 Turbo in the 190D a 5-cylinder 617 series engine?
There is one for sale in Ottawa in the Auto Trader for $3995 with 300+ KM on it.

Not a 617...

It's a 5 cyl turbodiesel, but not from the 617 series. It's either a 601 or 602 (I can't remember which model is which).

...a sad addition to that list would be the 603.97 = 3.5l 6 cyl (aka rodbender)
