Diesel purge and filters

I'm about to run some purge through my fuel system and was not sure if I needed to change both fuel filters afterwords?

I did that and feel that I wasted my time/money.
The DP never got dirty. If I did it again, I wouldn't even consider changing filters, unless it was obvious that the fluid was seriously dirty.
The purge did nothing for performance, either.
I run BD when not oil, so I think that is all the cleaner I needed there.

I would have to agree. It ran great during the purge but a soon as I ran back to straight diesel it ran the way it always did.
I think it's more important to make sure the valves are adjusted properly, the timing is right, etc..

What I want to do is take them out and clean them in Carburator cleaner then find someone who can pop test them for me.

I agree with Jimmyjoe no dirt from the engine is getting into the filters from this proceedure. To avoid diluting the purge you might want to consider empting the filter canister of diesel and filling it with purge before starting.

The first time that I used Diesel Purge ('82 300D), the purge became increasingly darker in color as it continued to circulate. There were a significant number of particles that accumulated in the primary filter.
I experienced a substantial improvement in engine performance; it continues to run better 4000 miles after the purge.

Thanks / filters

Thanks for the input. I'm going to try the purge because I adjusted the ALDA and got a good increase in performance then decided that I would turn back the ALDA just a little about 3 weeks later. When I did this the performance dropped more than I expected so I turned it back up but no improvement. I thought the injectors might have gotten dirty when I had the ALDA turned up.
I also wanted to clean the system and then check and adjust as needed the turbo waste gate.
Does anyone have an opinion on this, it would be appreciated.
Thanks

I stand by what I said. you have 170000 miles on your vehicle.
Do you know the condition of your timing chain?
When was the last time the valves were adjusted?
Any vacuum leaks?
When were the wheel bearings repacked last?
hows your suspension?
Stearing?

I'm not saying not to do the purge but you may not get the results you expect.

1)timming chain - ok
2)I'm also checking the valves
3)no vacuum leaks - in fact I am a trained pneumatic controls tech (as well as other faults) - the vac system is in very good condition
4)wheel bearings good
5)suspension - about to replace guide rod bushings
6)stearing - no problem
The drop in power happened as soon as I lowered the Alda setting.
