Type F???
Just bought a 1974 240D for 300 bucks with good engine (70,000 miles) and pretty nice exterior. Problem is...no owners manual came with. There was a Haynes manual in the trunk that said Type F Fluid went in the auto trans. So I had my mechanic service the tranny and put in Type F. I have since read in these forums that Dexron III is correct for this trans. Have I screwed up royally? Should I have the trans drained and refilled with Dexron?
Help!! Thanks

Drain the pan,drain the torque converter,replace the transmission filter,REFILL with MOBIL1 A.T.F.---!!!
You will not like the price, but 250.000 miles from now you'll love it. Follow the recommended drain and filter replacement intervals. ![]() |

DexronIII was never specified for these cars as it wasn't even around when they were made. It won't hurt running it though.
