Diesel Mercedes Original Selling Price

I am interested in knowing how much the 300SD 300D and 300SDL sold for brand new in the years that they sold. I have a few 240D original advertisments that say it sold for 20K in 81 and 24K in 82. Thats a lot of money for that year! or so I think.

I think the SD sold for around $40-$45,000 in '85.

Then there's 190Diesels from the early 1960's, famous as 3rd world taxi-cabs, that sold at/near a staggering $3k - when VW beetles cost about half that price!

I have the sticker for my 1981 SD - $39,500. Included sunroof and leather seats with rear headrests.

As a reference, I bought my first house in 1981 for $37,500.

You can request a copy of the original window sticker from MBUSA. Make the request in writing and include a copy of the registration or insurance certificate. Very Cool

My SDL had a sticker price of $52,5XX.XX was originally delivered to MB in Palm Springs, CA an "inventory re-assignment" (what ever that is) to Rasmussen MB in Portland, OR

In 1972 a new 220D with no options cost $6500. A typical American car of the same size such as Olds Cutlass, Dodge Dart cost $4500. I bought a 1969 diesel from the Mercedes dealer for $4500. It turned out to be a better buy and a better car than a brand new American car for the same price.

My 87 300D has paper work that shows a lease company paid $39,000.....to TransAtlantic Motors in Hyannis, Massachusetts.

My 1983 300SD came with the original window sticker. Almost $40,000.00, with cloth seats.

i have all the original paperwork on my 1979 300sd and the total sticker price on mine was out the door a hair under 29,000.00 i crunched and that is around 175,000.00 today

Mine was sold by Viti motors in Rhode Island, and cost $40,400 including leather seats and sunrooof. The original sticker was in the papers the previous owner turned over with the car.

It will depend on the options of course, my mother's 1986 300SDL with power seats, sunroof, electrically telescoping steering wheel (not sure if this was standard or what), but no heated seats cost around $60K I believe in 1986.
