Will take best offer for 1987 190D-2.5 Turbo

Folks,

I put a reman trans into my car without taking a closer look at the overall health of the engine and fuel system and so I am paying for my mistakes now. I have decided to cut my losses and let someone else with more resources give the car what it deserves. I will attempt to identify as accurately as possible all the mechanical needs I know the car needs.

Summary from my local mechanic, certified Bosch service center:

1. Injection pump leaking badly and pump not functioning properly, resulting in one or two cylinders not firing at start, but they do fire after 30s and engine will run smoothly. A very recent problem. Need to be replaced or rebuilt.

2. Glow plug harness looks burnt on the outside but I have had no problems starting in the past winter in single digit temperature here in michigan. Harness should be replaced.

3. Exhaust attached to header pipe starting to rot through. New exhaust.

4. Engine mounts shot. Engine resting on sway bar.

5. Brakes not in the best shape.

Rest of the car:

1. I see the most value in the reman transmission and the interior. All seats are in good shape. Neither worn nor torn. Dash, however, is cracked.

2. Even though the engine has 327, 000 original miles on it, the last entry in the original Mercedes Maintenance Booklet states 191,261 miles on May 5th 1992 as the last entry for a lube service. First entry is 5776 miles as of Oct 8th 1987. That leaves a balance of 136,000 in the past 13 yrs, very reasonable usage. The oil pressure is still a good 2mbars at idle and goes to max instantly with light throttle. Car is very fast (before the trans and fuel problems). I think the car still has many miles left in it. No blowby as far as I can tell.

3. Never had cooling problems.

4. A/C does not work.

5. Car is blue with blue interior.

6. Some rust spots on left fender and hood.

What I am asking for:

1. The highest offer, regardless. I know I could send it to a junkyard but I would rather have somebody on this forum benefit from this.

2. You have to arrange all transportation.

3. If there is no interest from this forum I might try ebay, but I want to get rid of the car as soon as possible, in the most convenient way, hopefully in a week. Maybe I would think differently after a night's rest but I seriously doubt it.

This is a good chance to fix up a rare and highly sought-after 1987 190D-2.5 Turbo...

Please contact me through email: tachun.yen@gmail.com
I am located in Ann Arbor, MI

Offer ends 11.59pm 5/15/05 Sunday.

Great car for someone in the area.

Someone in the Michiana area should jump on this one.

You would probably get a better response in the classifieds section.

The oil pan is rubbing against the sway bar, so saying the engine is resting on the sway bar is not entirely correct.
