Broken Injector Line

I had to make a trip from Houston to Beaumont yesterday with a return trip today. When I arrived in Beaumont, my '87 was running pretty rough. I thought maybe it was a little tired after running 85 the whoel way there. Well, this morning, I fired her up in the hotel parking lot and she was shaking like you wouldn't believe. I popped the hood and immediately noticed diesel spraying all over the place. It seems that the fourth injector line developed a pretty substantial crack. I drove over to the dealer to see about getting a new line...no luck. I called several outfits in Beaumont with no luck of finding my much needed part. I finally ended up going to AutoZone, buying some JB Weld and patching the hole. Diesel and JB Weld do not like each other. it managed to slow the flow rate, but was still spraying diesel all over the place. I ended up driving the car home as is. We won't discuss how much fuel is covering the engine compartment and underside of my car. None of the three dealers here in town have this part. My mechanic, MPH Automotive, did have one off of a parts car that they gave me so I wouldn't continue to stink up Houston with a leaky diesel.

Is this a common failure with these cars. I have never encountered this problem with any of the cars I have owned, but my mechanic didn't sound too surprised with my problem.
