N/A 617 with oil in air filter housing....
I mean a LOT of oil in the filter housing. Coming from the ccv hose? The pipe goes into the intake, so how would the oil get up into the filter can/element? Looks as though there is a bit of oil coming out of the hose coming from the air pump. Could the air pump be the source of the oil???? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sorry, yeah vacuum pump. Well, anyone had a piston seal on the vacuum pump go bad and cause it to leak oil into the hose going to the air box?

There is a sticky at the top of the page about SEARCHING...
We have posted loads of information... including pictures on fixing both types of vacuum pumps on these engines.. |

Right. And in the time it took you to write that, you could have said "Yes, as a matter of fact, oil in the air box is an indication that your vacuum pump is going bad." Thanks for nothing.

P.S. I've done searches for both "oil in air filter" and "vacuum pump" and haven't found the answers I need. Try some Exlax.

Relax
civility is preferred by those who are only trying to help you.
these guys are very helpful and have helped me out a lot with 113 pagodas from the 60s and 123 turbo diesels from the 80s. if you are appreciative and do your own research like they say you may just find that these posters have already provided the answers to your questions years ago. my two cents. Relax...

Vac pump diaphragm ruptured? Maybe its sucking oil. I thought the air filter oil was caused by excessive blowby. Is there a tube going from the valve cover to the air filter housing cover? If so, you might look into the updated floppy rubber one. Might make a difference. Use a thicker oil or maybe replace valve seals to get rid of some of the blowby? New piston rings? I don't know, just throwing out ideas.
A coffee and cigarette work way better and quickern' ex-lax.

I have posted pictures taken when my diaphram type pump was being fixed...and I know people have done great writeups about the piston style...
It makes much more sense to do a search.. or say ' I did a search " and need help with ' nomenclature' than to think people are going to start over and do it all again for each question... but of course that is covered best in the sticky at the top of the page.. |

The n/a 617 is different, the vent tube enters below the airbox, directly into the intake manifold.

Thanks. Therefore I don't think the oil is coming from the crankcase/valvetrain. Any seconds on the vacuum pump? I reserve civility for the civilized....

searching
i have not had much luck searching either. perhaps it is my lack of computer savvy, but i have searched for my own threads and failed. so i usually just answer if i have any knowledge, since people looking for help are not always able to do the search thing.

My question is quite simple. Has anyone had a bunch of oil pool up in their breather box because of a failed vacuum pump? I'm not asking for detailed instructions r.e. the overhaul procedures for said pump, I just want to know if it is what is wrong with this car!
I've tried a bunch of different searches, and haven't gotten anywhere. I don't see how, on this normally aspirated engine, the oil could have gotten into the breather box from the CCV pipe, which is "downwind", if you will, from the filter element and housing. The element was saturated, and there were drops of oil coming out of the hose from the vacuum pump (which, incidentally, is also an air pump, depending upon which end you're talking about; apparently this unit has oil dripping from its anus). I think the vacuum pump needs some love. Anyone in agreement??????????? Thanks, again, Jay. |
