Yeah, it is 40 miles door to door, usually 1 1/2 hour each way.
At least they are building you a new bridge...the beltway is unlikely to get widened anytime soon. On long trips mileage jumps up to around 37mpg.

Of course I'd trade a couple MPG for more HP.

My car does a good job at going slow.

He must be reading the board

He changed the mileage claim to 35.

I just realized a mistake on the listing . Car gets about 35 miles per gallon on an average , NOT 38+ miles per gallon . I think it must have been a typing error on my part .
I think I would demand at least 6 months of receipts that prove that claim...if I really cared.

I see ads for used MBZ diesels and VWs all the time in the local paper that say things like "1984 300D, can get up to 40 mpg!" or "1999 VW Jetta TDI. Gets 55 mpg!"

Yeah right. These are the people who own the cars selling them with completely outrageous claims. It annoys me. That is all.

The Jetta TDI could possibley see 55 mpg on flat land driven with a gentil foot.

The only was a 1984 300D will get 40mpg is if averaged on only the decending part of Pikes peak. But only it averaged from the top to the bottom.

I had a 97 Passat TDI. I got 52MPG on trips to New England and I had the cruise set on 75. I regret selling that car. Now my '82 240D is very comfortable on trips, but the MPG is only about 26MPG at best. It is also much louder in the cockpit. This has been my real world experience.

Another seller smokin' crack while he calculates MPG...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-E300-Turbodiesel-4DR-sedan-Showroom-New_W0QQitemZ4565339074QQcategoryZ6335QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

"The average gallon of fuel in this vehicle represents between 38 and 47 MPG in silent comfort."

Now you know the rest of his claims are probably just as bogus with respect to condition, etc.

but then I realized... I really don't care either, I was just bored.
