POLL Whitewalls on '82 240D

Putting new tires on the '82 240D. The old ones had good tread but were old and cracking. That should make me and those of you I share the road with feel better.

Thanks for your opinion,

Clay

I believe each of these cars are the final production year for that model.

I pretty much like blackwalls on anything built in the sixties on up. But to each his own.

Blackwalls are more correct for 80s vintage euro cars IMHO. Whitewalls may be cool on an older benz, but I think they look tacky on "modern" models. Maybe I'm just getting old because I think of 80s cars as modern.

yes yes, black walls!

whitewalls look great on earlier model vws(before the 'modern' one..-'67), though!

something about the towel bar bumpers makes them look great.

mmmmm air cooled.

i dont know though, how big of a white wall? i prefer the big giant thick ones. the little stripe looks silly. my mother wouldnt put anything else on her tempo back in the day.... i always giggle at the thought of a tempo with white walls.

theres no accounting for taste, though. do what YOU want, YOU have to look at it!

Alloy wheels DEFINITELY should have blackwalls. Color coded wheel covers MIGHT look okay with whitewalls.

Good luck,

This is my first post, but I've been a reader of this forum for almost a year now. Thanks to everyone for all the great info; it's given me a greater appreciation for the 300D!

Now to the question at hand...

I would say it depends on whether you've got the hubcaps or the bundt cake alloy rims.

I prefer the look of white walls with the hub caps, but I admit that whitewalls would probably look out of place with the alloy rims.

Cheers!

What ever happened to red-wall tires, you know the one's that were on TR6, and GTO?

Maybe they'd look cool on a dark blue Benz?????

THe redwalls are still availible for period cars.....but doubt they are cheap and would be special order items.

I have an '82 240D with the color keyed hubcaps and blackwalls. If I could find 185/70 Michelin's with very thin whitewalls I'd install them. I don't think they are available, however. Does anyone know if the tire I described is available?
