I bought mine at SEARS. It's a 12 point 27mm 1/2 inch drive deep socket. (wow, try saying that sentence fast )

I bought mine brand new (bosch) and they ran like crap. I had to go and get them pop tested and adjusted and that solved the problem.

I read in a thread here some time ago about someone wanting to put 617 injectors into a 603, and the response was that this would work, but that the 617 injectors would not be as efficient as those supplied specific for 603.

There are differences between the 617 and 603 injector nozzles, I noticed using my magnifying glass.

I bought my deep socket 27mm at Autozone.

Also note that the Bosch after market injectors will likely have "made in India" nozzles installed into the Bosch injector bodies, I call them "Bosch/India" injectors, instead of the ALL Bosch injectors, "Bosch/Bosch" original equipment. Try to stay away from Bosch/India injectors. Correct me if I'm wrong, but most if not all suppliers of Bosch injectors sell you rebuilds with newly made India nozzles. I think the only place left one can buy brand new Bosch/Bosch injectors may be at the dealership at or above $150 ea.

Tom of ColoradoBioDiesel, a member here, used to rebuild them and do a fine job. I had him do all six for my 603 and there was a night/day difference in smoothness and more power too!

A 1-1/16 12 point 1/2 inch drive DEEP socket will serve the same as a 27 mm

Take care that the return nipples don't get hit during the removal process.
Tom of ColoradoBioDeisel went through some personal problems and stopped working on injectors, even though his web site was still up a week ago.

Read the section in the Factory Service Manual on cleaning injector nozzles. There are tiny holes in the pintles in the nozzles. Clogged holes in pintles is the most common failure for injectors. Balancing clogged injectors is academic. Running injector cleaner through your car will not clean the holes. Most injector shops will not clean the holes. $3 is not going to get the holes cleaned out unless someone is working for free.

Any thoughts on what it takes to clean out these holes?
Ultrasonic dip?
Chemicals?
Ream?

Just curious...

As TwitchKitty said the process of cleaning the holes is stated in the Factory Shop Manual.
Along with all the tools necessary to do the job.

I don't have a FSM and the online one doesn't seem to have this job specifically in it (or atleast it is navigating so slow that I cannot access it ).

I just figured a few words could be said for the sake of future searches.

I just bought a used set of injectors that have 40k miles. I just paid 100 shipped so it wasn't that bad but now it gives me a spare set to pay around with if I can't stop my WOT smoking.

Yes I will.

$3 is not going to get the holes cleaned out unless someone is working for free.[/QUOTE]

Your right. The money is to keep my tools in working order. If needed, I will take the injectors apart and clean the seat + needle and shim them. If they are dirty, the nozzels will have a poor spray pattern, drip, stick or you name it. It is not hard to see. If cleaning them doesn't improve the spray pattern, your nozzles are worn and need to be replaced. Anymore questions?

This is why I started doing them myself. Chances are they never saw a pop test after the final assy. I have taken them apart and found no shims, and mis-matched tips and seats. Scary! You pay good money and get crap. I won't let that happen.

3 dollars an injector is a bargain....I ordered a spare set and will probably be sending it over to get them cleaned.

Fill me in on the shipping process etc.

Thanks

I would seal the injectors in ziplock bags and send them in a USPS flat rate box. Don't tell them they are fuel injectors. They might think you got a bomb in there and won't shipp them . You can get a tracking #. It costs $.50 more. Put a moneyorder in the box to cover testing and return shipping. Make sure I get your email so I can let you know how they come out. If they all are good I will send them back. If you need new nozzles, I will let you know and we can go from that point. Shipp to,
