Shop manual questions

I have a 300SD. And could only find a hanes manual locally for a 300CD. Differant chassis. Will this do me any good?

Also are the CD manuals offered here worth the $160?

Thanks
Doug

Doug,
Have I been where you are at before . . . I bought the actual MB two CD set and it is good in many ways. I find mine likes to crash because it does not like my newer application versions (e.g. Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Pro). I would not through them away. I have the Haynes that covers both of my cars listed below. I look at them sometimes and they do have some useful information. The above being said . . . for the '84 300D T I have the set of factory manuals. Those are by far the best though most of my projects get better answers right here through this forum. I remember early on reading a post written by one of the more active members regarding this topic. It basically said the more you can get for reference material the better. I can understand that. I have bought the MB Service Manual specific to the Model 124 Automatic Climate Control. Great resource for one of the more complex and problematic areas of the 124. I purchased a book specifcally written for repair and maintenance of the 124 doors. It took me through right and left front doors on my '87 300TD this weekend and with a couple of exceptions I think I could do many of the task in dim light. The latter two were bought on eBay. I watched and learned and finally bought. The CD's sold here are probably a must. Also check (hope it is okay to write this) **************.com for the specific project booklets. I don't think you will be going wrong. Other, more experienced members should add some guidance. Read the "sticky" Larry Bible added about proper posting . . . I get long winded and that is not good . . .
Best
Steve

There are some pretty good threads in the archives... with lots of opinions and advice...
I prefer paper manuals... but I have spent more than that getting them... I have a 123.. so that helps....

I have an 83 300SD and got a Chiltons manual that says it covers this model.
The best use I have found for this manual is for something to sit on in the dirt will I read the stuff from skinner box or one of the other on line sites. When I first got into this I started printing out info from various sites and wound up compilling a fairly good book of info. If you search here you will find almost any subject you can think of has been covered.

Even a pretty good manual looks like something to sit on once you have seen the Factory Shop manuals... it takes about 7 of them to cover one car.
" Almost" is the operative word... unfortunately the parts not posted on the web are the SAFETY WARNINGS.... which is a real bummer ... since I consider that part pretty important....

I do my own work and when I buy a vehicle I get the factory shop manual(s) for them. I have one for the 617 engine, the SD body(126) and HVAC book. I understand there is a electrical troubleshooting manual I don't have. I tried to get a trans manual. These are paper manuals. I would try to get paper, used even. My 2 cents.

I got around the slowness of skinnerbox in three days. Get a download manager, and just save the PDF files. I did it over the course of three nights (overnight), and now it's quicker than roadrunner

Yesterday I received the electrical troubleshooting manual you referenced. Very clear schematics and broken down by circuits. I have been plagued with some electrical problems and though I have the appropriate MB CDs and the Haynes, they were unusable for these electrical problems. Not the case with the electrical troubleshooting manual. Solved most of the major problem within less than an hour.
