Is this my Voltage regulator acting up?

Hi, guys.

Recently I replaced my voltage regulator (boy, were those brushes worn down!).

I've noticed over the last two days that the battery and brake disc lights come on and stay on when starting the car. A light tap of the accelorator makes them go off and stay off. Is this my new VR acting up? I did recently degrease the engine (due to citric acid spraying all over thanks to a loose hose clamp), so I wonder if maybe i corroded something in the VR.
