OMFG orgasmic! I'm going to show that to my broker, she should buy it!

I'd kill for an SDL like that, I'd detail it to death and enjoy the perfection.

I wouldn't pay $27k for it, but I know people who would.

I bet the owner was 90, had some money as well, look at the houses.

I have seen some lesser cars that were like this. Actualy my dads friends 90 something year old grandmother has an early 90's Buick with 3k miles on it. The thing just sits in here garage, looks like new.

Not the best for the engine, but its really good for the body. Which is good because the engine is much cheaper to fix. It would take all of $10k-$15k to get a decent driver into that kind of cosmetic condition, but still it wouldn't be original.

The driveline is cheap, so what if the seals are shot. Send the trans out for a re seal, $1000 your done, yank the head and do the same $1000(maybe). All the suspension bushings are probably fine, and maybe the shocks would start to leak if you drove it. But so what shocks are cheap, throw a new OE set on. Cheap stuff.

Nevertheless, I think it is worth $27k to somebody. If I had it I might take a bid at it, but . . .

I've seen this view expressed many times on the forum. For the past 25 years I've had a policy of buying vehicles like this. Nice cars bought by upper middle class people upon retirement and driven very little. Usually they are at least 15-20 yrs old and typically less than 30k miles. I've never had to replace a seal on one of them
My 77 300d which I bought in 2001 from the original owner had 55k on it. No seal problems whatsoever.
I think it's a myth.

I do as well, but some people stick to it.

I look at it this way, the seals are in better shape than a similer vintage SDL with 300k miles on it. Time is the same, but this one has far fewer hot and cold cycles.

$27K is the opening bid with a reserve, so he won't sell it for that. It's a beautiful car for sure but like any low mileage example it will depreciate very quickly as it is driven since the premium being paid is for the low miles...so what's the point of buying it? To drive it or to keep it in the garage?

You can buy a nice driver for $10K or less with 100K miles and will likely require the same work to keep it on the road, but will maintain its value much better. To buy a car to drive I'd rather just buy or lease a brand new one as it won't cost any more each month than buying and driving this one once you get through with servicing it. I'd bet $5 the A/C has no refrigerant in it...so start there.

Its worth about $20k+/-. If he wants to sell it he will price it at that eventualy.

The only 126's that fetch $27k+ are 560SEC's with AMG mods and documantion to prove it.

Well, I don't know about buying it, but for me it's like car porn. Probably not going to happen in this life, but fun to look at. Refer to this thread for specific examples http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=116638 I am sure I could find a "serviceable daily driver" locally, but one of the "low mileage examples" shown in the thread would be nice! Heck with the rapid depreciation.

Speaking for myself, I would feel better about buying this car for $20K, than the latest from todays available car world in the $25K range.

Killing time at work!
