I plugged the line and nothing significant happened... what exactly am I looking for?
Another interesting thing happened... I took the car for a drive hoping that maybe getting the temp up would trigger something. Nothing... AND the temperature never got above 60C. The radiator is topped off... And to clarify on an earlier post... I checked the shutoff valve, so the vacuum shutoff issue is coming from somewhere else. The servo? I have no idea. I'm going out to pull it off my parts car, just in case. |

Shut off the climate control system completely by pushing the off button. This should eliminate all climate control vacuum leaks from the system. Then try shutting off the engine. Also try shutting off the engine with the doors locked/unlocked.
If the engine shuts off ok with the heater off, vacuum leak is in the heating system somewhere. If it makes no difference the vacuum leak is probably in the door locking system somewhere. If so, plug the main line under the hood going to the door locks and try again.

That pod is no fun to get out of there, eh? I snapped the tension nuts and am waiting a bit before trying to take the arm off. I have a 95% chance of breaking the plastic fitting during removal/installation.
I'm out the door to see whether it is the door locks or the ACC causing the vac problem... |

Thanks KE...
The vacuum was a lock issue. I'll have to track down exactly where the leak is or just leave 'em as manual... bigger fish (or tofu, in my case) to fry right now! I plan to swap out the thermostat tomorrow... this low temperature cannot be correct. I have no idea whether it will solve any heater issues, but it can't hurt. i also grabbed a servo off my parts car.... I *guess* that I am going to swap it out tomorrow. I am hoping someone will give me some insight that will help me make this decision. I hate replacing things (well major things anyway) when i am not 90% sure that it is bad. Thanks again, KE... where in Denver are ya? I used to teach in Montebello and live near DU on S. Clayton. I don't miss the traffic... |

1st and Broadway. Went to graduate school at DU.
There is a control in the system that keeps the heater from not functioning until the engine warms up. (at least it keeps the blower off). So, I'd wait on the servo until you've replaced the thermostat and tested it unless you can see an obvious crack in the servo. These engines are hard to get the air out of once they are drained of coolant and refilled. It helps if you refill it thru the top radiator hose and have the nose of the car higher than then back.
