The saga of the 116 oil pan swap continues. My mentor, Alvin, who already had 10 years experience working for Mack Truck before he started training me at the MB dealer called me back today. He remembered why you swap the oil pan, and it was to take advantage of the oil drain system. The oil separation system greatly reduced the amount of oil seeping down the roght side of the engine block. So I guess it is not a matter of having to swap the pan, but a matter of taking advantage of production up grades.
