Mobil 1Delvac Synthetic or Mobil Delvac 1300 Super
Which one is best to use in my 1983 300D Turbo with 150000 miles? After a search on this web site I find alot of people use the Mobil 1 Delvac Synthetic, but it is 5w40. The Mobil 1300 Delvac Super is 15w40..They are both Delvac ....Thanks

The Delvac is the clear choice for your diesel.

Sorry,
The Mobil 1 is synthetic and more expensive. They both are universal grade oils, meaning for diesels. The Super 1300 or whatever, threw me. If you are looking for economy, I would use the non-synthetic and change it about 3,000 miles or less. If you don't mind paying for the ultimate, I would say that Mobil Delvac One is clearly the ultimate diesel engine oil. but if it were me, I would still change it every 3,000 miles. No matter what oil you use, the microscopic particulate matter accumulates and is not healthy, especially for the timing chain. Have a great day, |

Ok Larry I took your advise and got The Mobil 1 Delvac (synthetic), also what engine flush do you recommend?
We used a little diesel fuel when I was in the service, but hey I didn't pay for it. Thanks!!

I personally would not use a flush. I would perform the flush by doing frequent and hot oil changes.
If you insist on flushing before putting in the synthetic, there is a product called Motor Flush. I would add the quart to a hot engine and run a few minutes before pulling the drain plug and filter for an overnight, or at least a one hour drain. By hot I mean full operating temperature. It takes typically about 17 miles to reach full operating temperature. I'm not talking about the coolant temp being at 85C. This happens in a couple of miles. The oil temperature trails the coolant temperature by quite a long interval. I would not recommend filling the crankcase with diesel and starting the engine. You could either pour some diesel fuel through a hot engine without starting it, or use a couple of quarts of diesel with the rest engine oil. Good luck, |
