I know I should get to it. How hard is it to access that fuel tank? What has to be removed to gain such access?

Remove the bottom rear seat (it has deals you push on to get it out). Then take out the 3 screws (one on either side and one in the middle below the arm rest)

Lift the rear part of the seat off (it goes up before it will come away from the metal). Then you can see the sender right there...easy acess...

Take it out with whatever means you have (a big socket being the ideal)

The sender comes apart (the little nut on the bottom encased with plastic comes off) and then the tube will slip off.

Then you can clean it out to your hearts desire. Be careful not to break the wires.

This is for a w126 body.

No, I don't straigize to gain mileage, it was merely an observation due to not having to hunt for fuel at work. I was just not expecting to see a mileage improvement. Actually, it could be that the diesel fuel I'm gett ing is of better quality than what I've been using. I had always used Sunoco, the new station is a Hess station. Higher cetane maybe? Car ran best on peanut oil, but it's too cold for that now.

And if i only make left hand turns with just the low beams on the mileage will actually somtimes appproach 40+ (but you do have to keep the sunroof closed) Very amazing :-)
