0 to 60 times

I dug out my stopwatch and am gonna defy the law and check mine tomorrow.
( 45mph max, around the island )

I could take it over the 7 Mile Bridge, where the limit is 55...
but I'll risk the cops, instead of taking the 14 mile journey.

Post your times here. ( Diesel only please )
Awards will also go to the slowest time.

0 to 60 with an SDL, OM603, can't tell you (lead sleds) but an 87 300 D, well, that's another picture! The 300 D will go 11 to 12 seconds in good tune, the SDL will tortus in a slower time due to it's rolly-polley, spare-tire, but in more comfort! Brian and Hat will be slower!

Thanks for the link. That was a good read.

That 300DSL time of 7-8 seconds had me freaked.
Seems it was from a rolling start though and subsequent video
only took it to 50mph, for some reason, so I wonder what the real deal is?
Still seems like an abnormally fast SDL ?

Mine has mucho balls and I'm only expecting something like 12 seconds.

The 87 300 D has the same 603 as the 126 86-87 SDL....If unless you want to challange GSXR with his 124 603's, I will highly doubt 7-8 second minute miles in a 126....even if it were intercooled!

My SD will go 12.8-13 in the cooler weather now. Never ran a before/after with the ALDA cranked. This is a Federal 1985 model with the emission parts disabled for testing reasons only.

The SDL ran about 10.8-11 before ALDA tune, now it's 10-10.2. Also my SDL does not have the Air Flow Meter currently, EGR, and the Cat is gutted.

Same stretch of road. Similar weather, upper 40s, low humidity. About 1/2 tank of fuel in each and only myself in the vehicle in question.

The '86 would run in the 11 second range.

The new '87 won't do that. It needs some attention in the ALDA. Also may need additional boost. I haven't checked it yet.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention I haven't even checked the boost levels on mine yet with a gauge. I keep putting off picking up that small boost tube for whatever reason.

According to March 1986 Car&Driver, a 2.3-16 5sp could do 0-60 in 7.3, which made it a very quick car at the time. (1/10th sec slower than the Quattro Turbo Coupe, 9/10 faster than a 635CSi BMW)
7-8sec from an old diesel is very quick.

0-60 run at approximately 4500 feet: 16 seconds.

5-mile top end run at approximately 4300 feet: 114 on a slight down grade, 110 on the flat, 0-100 in 39 seconds. I ended up having to replace my driveshaft center bearing and mount right after that

Both runs were using winterized #2. This was all before I replaced my thermostat, so I was starting out with the coolant around 60 C. It's probably a little faster now. I still need to adjust the ALDA.

That 7-8 second SDL. That would be me. I can see the men in uniform strolling over here with a straight jacket between them to take me away, HA-HA!

I make it a point at times to prove that I'm driving uphill/downhill when I accelerate by pointing the camera out the glass. I have yet to find a precise method for recording the GPS via my camera as I accelerate. I have no formal equipment for this, so I occasionally use the headrest to lock the minicam in place.

The IP for my SDL is not original. It has been replaced, I assumed by the Mercedes dealer, shortly before it made it into my family. Along with a new chain, if I recall.
I have not pried the governor cover off to see what the devil is at work, in there.
I have no intention of messing with the pump when it runs so well. I'm afraid the temptation, once there, may get the better hold of my juvenile mind.
The CCA can also be a hog and a half to get detached from the linkage. I have no need.

BTW, Hitman, if those times are GPS verified, that's as quick or quicker than the 124 300D turbo. Make sure to measure the quarter mile, and be sure to average out the times on the tested stretch both ways. I'd like to hear the results.

I will post this here too if anyone was wondering about Ponton diesels:

Maybe 30-40 seconds for the 180D. But that's only when I am really slamming the column-shift manual like a monkey.

I got up to 75 mph once in it too, coming down off Sidling Hill on I-68. No CDI technology in this car.

The times were taken with my chrono Seamaster as I do not own any equipment to verify and the 1/8th mi has been closed for the winter. I'd assume it's decently accurate... it runs in 0.2 sec intervals on the main second hand then really precise (0.0X) on the secondary hand at the top.

I'm just amazed the ALDA tweak made that much of a difference. The SD was more shocking when I first did the tweak but still was running so-so as I didn't adjust the valves until 5K mi ago.
