And then there's the speedo ...
When I bought our '84 Euro, the PO told me that speedo read low, and how right he was. Based on various somewhat scientific tests, I concluded that the percentage of error was about 15%. With that in mind, I adjusted the speed at which I drove accordinly and never got a ticket. A year or so later, I replaced the four-speed manual trans with a five-speed; or, more accurately, my friend did the exchange. Since he was curious about speedos, he tried a few that he had on hand, but none were more accurate than the original, though somehow I ended up with one different from the original, one which reads about 14% FAST. Oh well, mental adjustments are easy to make, and I still haven't been issued a citation.
What do I write all this? It's in my plans to remedy the speedo issue some good day -- there's a shop in Tacoma, WA, which cuts the speedo cable and inserts a little gearbox to make the proper adjustment -- so I'm not really concerned about the speedo in the cluster. It's the tach I'm after, and a sender that will drive it, a sender which I can install reasonably easily. Indeed, I would be more than satisfied with a tach, a sender which is compatible with it, and a clear path to installation
