Talking So when does it turn from just a car to a hobby?

When does it turn from. Hmm I can get a pretty nice MB for $3k and drive it for awhile, to I want it perfect, I want 6 more and I will go to the meets and join MBCA.

Thats kind of how it started with me. I didn't quite realize what I was getting myself into that fatefull day I handed $2,500 over for my SDL...

Its a darn fine way to waste time and money though, cheaper then boating...

Same here, we bought my SD intending for it to be my "college driver" car, now look what happened. Slowly but steadily I pour all my money into it and restore it.

Nothing, "offshore powerboat racing makes cocaine addiction look like a craving for something salty."

I remember I sold my parants on the MB by saying it would be a cheap car to drive to school.

For me, it became a hobby as I started noticing how well-thought out EVERYTHNG was. Every time I did some more work, I was struck by the thought, " Someone really thought about someone doing what I am doing right now". After years of working on Fords, it is a pleasure to observe the neat routing of the vacuum lines to and from the climate control unit. Or the way they molded little nubs into the blower housing to hold the wires for the blower motor. It just goes on and on...
Well almost everything--they must have trained their engineers on the A/C compressor mounting. Who else installs the compressor upside down so that all the oil drains out into your face when you remove the hose?

When you have way more cars than drivers and can not stand parting with any of them.

It becomes a hobby when you fix something that is not broken.

When there are repairs that need to be made, and you find every method to tackle the repair without making a trip to the indy

It stops being just a car and becomes a hobby the minute you get excited enough to join a site and you spend more time there talkiing about your car than you do actually in your car.
