As far as I know the only type that is good for bioidesel is Viton.

New school of thought:
Viton not necessary. New OEM fuel hose will work just fine. It's not the rubber compound that makes original fuel hoses break down under biodiesel use. It's the fact that they're 20 years old, so the bio serves as the straw that broke the camel's back. Viton is way more expensive than regular- if you want to save a wad of cash, just buy new regular hose.

i agree. change all the hoses to modern. when under blondie yesterday i found an old braided fuel line. i think it is the only one left. change comes soon.

Viton is a non essential for running bio. Hose usualy start leaking because they were 20 years old to start with, not because they were rubber. I have never seen new rubber hoses leak on bio. Hmmm......

I thought so too...but, my experience has shown that new German OEM return hoses break down within less than 2 years when running high concentrations of biodiesel. I've had this happen both on OM617 and OM603 engines. The lines become hardened and the ends crack from vibration flexing. Apparently it's the combination of bio's solvent properties combined with heat. I haven't had any problems with other OEM fuel lines placed further away from sources of heat, just injector return lines. YMMV

i have seen return lines do the same thing you describe on cars run with diesel. since i am not the original owner i don't know when the hose was ever replaced on my three cars before coming into my possession.

If you aren't going with Viton, make sure to get fuel line from the Mercedes dealer. Regular old auto parts store fuel line WILL get eaten from the inside out by biodiesel. Before I replaced all my lines with Viton, I would trap black rubber particles continuously by my filters; chunks in the prefilter, fine black powder in my spin-on.

what about Ip seals
I have already replaced the seals on the delivery valve With the regular Buna type rubber. the seals are rated up to 250 degrees or so. I figure they are good seals. I have done research on buna and it seems it was one of the first types of synthetic rubber. It was developed by the Germans pre WWII as a durable alternative to natural rubbber. Does anyone think these seals may fail prematurely? I have the Ip spline tool right now on loan. and would like to know if I should switch to a different type.The seals are not MB, But are from local hydraulic shop as i already explained.
