My 84 300TD has a small hole in the flex pipe, and I was wondering what that fexi stuff actually does. I have seen flexable exhaust on FWD cars but never on a RWD...

So the question is, could that be replaced with a pice of steel, with out inducing more stress on other parts of the exhaust system? creating rattles, and other bits of comotion??
