Ever searching for a limited slip setup for my 280e euro dedicated autocrosser.

Now I am thinking of a 126 247 or 224 lsd.

According to my calculations, with the 224 rear, running in first is within 2% of running in second with the 369 ratio I presently have. Taking off will be without drama though as I would have to baby it to get it going without smoking the clutch.

2.24:1 seems a bit low as the M110 doesn't have the low speed torque. I believe a 3.08:1 would be well suited (300D Turbo, until 1985). 300D N/A had around a 3.4x:1 too.

Didn't your car have the five speed OD manual trans?

I'd just pull a good limited slip from a 126 and install into a W123 carrier of your choice. The ring and pinion is the same, just not sure if the axle spline count is the same.

MB went to a larger ring and pinion in 1986, 210mm or some such. So it will not fit the W123.

Yes,my car is a fiver.

The 224 would not be suitable for the street, and really not ideal for the autocross either, but I am desparate for a lsd and am grasping at straws now.

Not being an expert on rear ends, is it possible that the lsd portion of the 247 diff will bolt to the ring gear of the 369?

My favorite machinist could do the set up if this is a possibility.

Yes, I would chance that it would. The ring gears are the same size (180 or 185mm) and the only hang up would be to verify if the spline count on the axle shafts is the same between the W123 and W126. I'd bet so, but I will not assume.

I'd expect them to be the same, but you just never know. Ford ran 28 and 30 spline axles in the 8.8" rear for example.

I wish I could transfer the limited slip feature to a 2.88 or 3.07....that'd be great....

Liar!! Liar!! Liar!!! :liar: Whats the intercooler straight pipe, and vnt for then?

Actually though I'm very happy with my 2.88 . Combined with my modified turbo at 60+ it just takes a brief moment for my car to gather its composure and then I'm gone. Three weeks a go a had some late model gasser sport pick up pass me doing about 80. I decided what the hell and punched it. I passed him doing 90+ going up hill

I'd love sticking a 2.87 limited slip in it for the winter.

If I could find a 2.47 for a reasonable price I'd probably be willing to *try* it....put it in and see how it goes....but I'd keep my 3.07 in case I couldn't live with the loss of off the line power. I use that pretty often. Sure would be nice on the freeway though, nice and quiet.

I've never tried a top speed run on my 124 with the stock 2.65. I think the highest I've gotten it was 110 and it was still (slowly) pulling. Published spec is 122mph, just a few MPH short of the 87 300D with the 603. So I think the top speed would just about be at the governor in 4th.

I don't think I'd switch to a lower rear with the 602 because the around town performance would suffer. It's just about right with the 2.65. Maybe I'd try it on a 603, although I haven't driven an 87 to see how much peppier it is at low speeds.

If there's a lot of traffic and traffic lights I do, but at 40ish and above I'll put it in 4th. And at night when the lights are blinking yellow and there's no traffic I will go to 4th even at 25mph and just growl along. Does fine. I can accelerate uphill in 4th gear from 18-19mph without a prob.
