survey

there has been a lot of discussion about off road red diesel and untaxed fuel.
Has anyone here ever had there Mercedes car fuel tank sampled by the state or federal gov, vehicle enforcement officers, police, irs, state troopers.

Now we are talking about your car, not your farm truck or you big rig... but have you ever had your mercedes car fuel sampled here in the United States.

Fuel Sample

Been driving a VW diesel for 5 years, and have never been questioned. Never ran off-road diesel either.

Never been sampled or even asked about it in 4+ years. I wouldn't even know who regulated it. Wouldn't it be similar to an illegal search if this was the only reason you were pulled over? BTW, what happens if they don't find red diesel in your tank but homemade biodiesel? Neither have had taxes paid on them.

In my 30 years driving UPS trucks, I had NEVER seen any FED boys doing fuel sampling until late last year. I was pulled into a roadside area off a major highway and fuel sampled. This is in California..... I have heard alot about the east coast and people using home heating or farm fuel but never here. I asked the guy about the fines and he just ! I had a client that ran/runs farm fuel in his Mercedes. I warned him..... So far,to my knowledge, he has not ever been checked.

test

the vehicle enforcement officer takes a sample of the fuel in your tank... they dip your tank... and the test looks for a chemical marker that is placed in untaxed diesel fuel... since the chemical marker is not in your bio fuel then they would not know.... although someone said they may make a mistake if you have been putting transmission fluid in your tank...

and they would have a hard time getting there stick into the gas tank of a mercedes benz. the test is designed for a big rig..

Never been tested, and a lot of that time was in big farm country WA and SD, never got tested.
I had regular deliveries of "tractor Fuel" to the tank by the garage... ;-D
I can check with my dad, he drove a lot more than I did.

You never want to get found to have off road fuel as it is a base fine PLUS so much per gal of capacity. It could easly be one of the worst days of your life. By brother-in law drives a LP delivery truck and was spot inspected by DOT last fall. They truned around and chased him. Did not have to chase to far as a local LP delevery truck is not the fastest thing in the world.

They ( DOT ) like to target farm shows and the such and dip tanks as you drive in. After Katrina the enforcement was suspended for a couple of months or so due to the shortage of diesel down south.

I've been driving MB Diesels since 1968 and I have never had my fuel tested. I have never seen anyone else have their fuel tested either.

if you dont want the stick to make it even into the tank take the tank out cut off the old pipe that goes to that tank and add one with a nice bend in it. but keep the lip and end on the tank.. cut the middle out..

i ran un taxed stuff during the hurricanes.. thats what came out of the pump so i didnt question.boy was it expensive

red diesel

Notice that you said he was driving an LP delivery truck... as before does anyone know of anyone who has been stopped in there mercedes diesel car and had there tank sampled.

So far no one has know of anyone.

I do not advocate running red diesel... i advocate running wvo.... or growing rapeseeds and pressing oil and running it...

The reason i am posting this is becasue people seem to make such a big deal out of the red diesel stuff and its really not an issue...
