I pulled that sensor out too - didn't know what it was - but that side of my evap was totally clean.

I figured that was becuase all the air comes through from the other side so if anything is going to get caught on the evap it will get caught on the opposite side.

Be carefule with the shop air and water - those fins bend quite easily.

yup. We're talking about the same thing. That item is living on on another car. Actually, not - it failed and was replaced yet again. But- gone- for our purposes, nonetheless.

My experience has been, you raise the idle until the low pressure levels out and it should be in the blue range or 45 to 55 pounds at ambient temp of 100 degrees.

I did mine at idle and when you rev it, the low pressure drops a bit so when i added more freon as described above air got nice and cold.

Oh mine is 134a though.

works great!

Another thing you can do to boost the temp is to jump the Receiver dryer temp switch. This turns the Aux fan on permanently, which provides cooling to the condenser continuously.

A small jumper wire across the 2 wires going to the switch will work. The fan will be on when the key is turned on. In the fall, remove the jumper wire

once my aux fan turns on, it never turns off. I'm assuming while operating the temp is always above the cut on preset

Is the sensor mounted from the engine compartment side? Whereabouts?

SEnsor enters from the passanger compartment side. It's a 1.5" rubber gromment with a wire sticking out of it on the side of the evap case facing the back of the car..

Hey all - partically Rick, did you ever tested your parts car to see if you were successful in cutting a hole to clean out the evaporator? After a life of 24 years, I am sure my evaporator is filled with disgusting crap. But I don't want to go through the headache of pulling it all apart. So a faster way my goal.

Thanks for the bump. I think I'll try this stuff by dropping the blower assembly.
http://www.autoacsystems.com/_store/storeopen_odor.html
Based on reading this thread, could I spray through the driver foot vent and also get to the evaporator? Is there an ideal place to drill a cleaning hole for access? If you vacuum first as suggested in an old post by connecting a shop vac to the center vent, wouldn't that be trying to pull the crud through the evaporator? Wouldn't it be better to put the shop vac in the channel going from the blower to the evaporator and try to suck it out in reverse flow?
