He's selling on Autotrader now

Recognize this car?

It's the same '87 300TD from eBay.

Our favortie Mercedes expert, deutscheserzeugnis, is taking his one-man snake oil show to ripe new hunting grounds on Autotrader.

Except, he's now asking for the $11,500 up front.

And now, we have his phone number:

That bumper is horifically misaligned in those pictures. There is that huge gap on it. Not to mention since its an earlier car, it should have lighter colored bumpers!!!! Gah!!!

Front or back bumper? How can you tell?
I'm looking for an '87 and these types of tips can really help me learn the little things to look for.

Do you mean grey in color or they should be faded. I test drove an '87 last weekend and all the trim/bumpers had faded to a greyish-black color.

On my 1988 300TE, the front bumber fits nice and snug against the bottom of the grille. Well, there is a slight gap, but that one is as wide as the grand canyon!

Notice how its snug on the oassanger side under the blinker. Now look at the drivers side under the blinker. The gap gets bigger going from passanger side to drivers side.

Yep, I noticed the grill gap. At first, I though the hood was popped, but not open. But, checking along the hood/fender channel shows that it is all the way down, locked.

A little frontend smash?

BTW, the first day of the auction I asked if the wagon had factory paint. His response "the car has been repainted". Nothing more. No description of the quality or cosmetics.

Look at this pic.

Do you notice anything about the paint under the mirror?

Yes, that appears to be the "orange peel" effect.

That mirror too... They were supposed to be grey plastic, but they got repainted somewheres along the way. The newer ones (1990+) have the painted covers. And even then they are glossy!

That wagon was hit at some point, no doubt about it. The hood isn't lined up.

If it looks this bad in the digital pics it must be horrible in person.

I bet if you pulled out the plastic wheel well liners you would see that the front fenders are either repiared or simply not original.

So, what are we gonna do if someone finally buys that POS and then shows up here asking for help? Do we laugh or cry? Hate to see someone suckered in by this seller-creep.

So waddaya gonna do ? Too far for me to pay a visit. Feed it to the Florida BBB ?
Does he sell a lot of cars...if so, he needs a licence...can't we complain to the Florida licence issuing office ?

How about a call to the IRS on the hot line.?
