OK. Just to clear up any confusion: this car is a disaster. Aside from the catastrophic collision damage, it has rust issues under the body, I guess from leaks down into the floor pan. Way too far gone.
But it had a decent working motor and a standard tranny with all associated hardware. Also several part on the car were decent for resale. That is my story to the wife....... I'm stickin' with it.
Here are some pics of little Scar. Had a town council meeting this evening, so I still haven't really looked at too much of the car at all. Did spray off the engine today, but after the pics were taken.
Got quite a few receipts, like oil cooler and both hoses, driver window regulator, had timing chain stretch checked and was OK, had brakes and clutch bled, tranny flushed, top off R12, etc.... All at MB specialty shop.
Too bad for the collision.....

Oh, btw.... I swear the back bumper looks like you could pull it off and put in on another car.

Check out that back window...unbroken. And, I'd bet the RR door works OK too.

In my trips to the junkyards, I've come across several with damage very similar to Elton's...bumper pushed all the way over the rear wheel....I never ceased to be amazed at the level of destruction a 123 or 126 could exhibit and still have operating doors and/or no broken glass.

The hulk I scavenged Marlene's tranny from was actually on the BOTTOM of a stack of three cars...two of the doors were open also.

Definitely engineered like no other car in the world™.

I pushed on one of the Schrader valves, and the system was not under pressure. Haven't looked closely at the compressor, nor do I even remember if there is a belt on it. It is of the R4 variety. Fan does not come on either.

Drove the car around the pasture once this evening (no brakes ), drivers front and passenger rear doors flapping in the breeze. Some fairly horrible noises coming from the trunk area, but I believe it was the trunk lid contacting things......
Little motor does have a fairly massive amount of blowby, as it will eventually poof the cap off the valve cover. Amazing how smoothly it idles though, and seemed to accelerate OK considering the conditions (pasture with no shocks ). Never got past second gear......
