Rear Window Seal Replacement Adventure!
I finally decided that I was tired of water drips in my trunk every time it rained and decided to tackle replacement of my rear window seal this weekend. I'd had the seal lying around for a few months, and my Dad agreed to help me with it this weekend, so I hit it.
I definately had some serious rust damage in there, though I don't think it was as bad as PawoSD's experience. I used his Patented Pawo Method for fixing it, namely, some small scraps of steal and a 10oz box of JB Industro Weld. Used a grinder and cut off wheel to cut out the bad pieces, then ground down everything else along the bottom to bare metal. I then JB'd in new metal and let dry overnight. While I was at it, I coated the entire bottom window ledge all along and up the sides part way with JB weld too. I figure that way, even If I do develop a leak in later years, it can't rust the metal that way! Then yesterday, we reinstalled the window. (What a job! ) So, enough of my blab, now for the onslaught of pictures!

I am figuring that it took you most of the weekend? Also, did you do this because of the cost to get it done? Nice work

The Finished Product!!!!
And finally, the window in the car!
After I got the window in, I took a tube of 3M Windo-Weld Urethane Adhesive sealant and ran all the way around the seal under the lip. I was told by a friend who is a glass guy that "you'll need a saw to break through that seal!" So therefore, I shall hope to be rid of my water leaks! I'll test with a hose later, but since I've got the interior of the car officially filthy, I'm going to do some other work inside first........

Cost to replace seal would have been $80 labor at the local glass place where my friend works, but if they'd have found the rust I had, they wouldn't have fixed it. In that case, I'd have been in a real jam trying to get the car home with no back window to fix it and then take it back. So, I did it myself.

...or if you had taken it to a glass place where your friend didn't work, you wouldn't have much of a car in a few years.

I'm curious about the 'new metal'- would you explain that fully - where you got it, cut it, bent it, etc., etc.

awesome! Thanks for the credit on the Patented Pawo Method! The car we did that way is still perfect and leak free.
