4.6 million kilometers

This one is similar to Sachinides 240D

Stuttgart - A Greek taxi driver is to present the Mercedes-Benz museum in Germany with his trusty cab - a Mercedes diesel with 4,6-million kilometres on the clock.

The Mercedes 240D is to be handed to the company's museum in Stuttgart by Gregorios Sachinides on Friday.

Sachinides clocked up the kilometres driving round the streets of Thessaloniki, but also made hundreds of journeys to Belgrade to transport medical supplies during the war in the Balkans.

He was so pleased with his car that he wrote to DaimlerChrysler boss Juergen Hubbert to thank him personally for the outstanding service.

As a result officials from the Mercedes-Benz museum visited the taxi driver who promptly agreed to hand the car over to the museum.

DaimlerChrysler said it was the highest vehicle mileage known.

When Sachinides bought the 1976 model in 1981 it already had 500 000km on the clock. He changed the engine three times but the car kept going strong. -Sapa-dpa

There is no excuse for having to replace 3 engines in that few a miles. He shoulda kept the oil changed.

Red face

He actually recycled the three moters 11 times. They gave hime a new car for the donation......See below.....

Highlighting the reception the president of DaimlerChrysler Hellas, Dr. Alexander Paufler, presented Mr. Sachinidis with a key for a new C 200 CDI to be picked up upon his return to Greece.

The chrome horseshoe

Maybe the lucky horseshoe on his grille helped.

I've seen those on German Mercedes, cars, G wagens, etc.Luftwaffe WW2 truck, but no one seems to know where the custom came from and why only on German owned cars. Anyone?
