Thumbs up Timing Chain guide rail pin puller tool, how to use?

This tool finally came in the mail... and well I have no clue how to use it.

Can anyone explain how it works so I don't damage it?

I know the small end threads into the pin... but I dunno how it removed the pin. I think something about bottoming the nut out and reverse the top one?

Screw threaded end into pin until bottomed....screw second nut down until body contacts block....continue to turn second screw in, as pin is drawn out.

So do I keep tension on the main body?

I'm sure this is a simple too, but it makes no sense to me. LOL

The main body is knurled, to hold still....the nut above it pulls on the thread you just screwed into the pin.....as you continue to turn the second nut it draws the pin out into the body . The cut away on the end that rests against the block allows you to see the pin move.

for coming out just turn both to the right.... first screw the end into the pin, then act like youre tightening the larger nut on the center shaft, since the center is attached to the pin asnd the housing wont let the nut move any closer, it pulls the pin back toward you.

tape puller to timing chain with Gorilla tape...seal valve cover...start engine....

works like a charm...pulls the timing chair guide rail and all over engine relevant parts out of place!

no im just joking....

i've never actually seen that gizmo but I'm sure the brains on this board have and know it....

good luck..

Which car is getting the new chain? Just curious because I will be doing mine soon, and am wondering how easy/difficult it is to do. Is this tool something that is necessary to get the rail pin out?

I have to finish taking the head off a 603 I have... then going to do the upper guides on the SD... then it's needed for the 560 motor going into my 420.

Yup, most run and drive fine (BMWs are just hangin' out). A few are in Houston at my mother's house. She's a Lexus lover but for some reason likes that 280S a lot... I have the carb it for it, it'll be running by this weekend hopefully! F150 is there too due to the rental properties we own. I'm building the '86 420 for my brother to drive, it's simply too hot to do the swap right now. But that M117 in there w/ Euro TriYs and cams will scoot well.

Most of the other stuff is PM. Guide rails are a few bucks and I can check chain stretch and replace gaskets where needed while I'm in there.
