get ready for a sad story

so today i was at my friends house. she left to go get some cigarettes. when she came back she informed me she had a little accident. SHE RAN INTO MY CAR!!!!!!! smashed the drivers door a little but totaly caved in the drivers side passanger door on my belovid 240D!!! i couldnt believe this was actully happening!!

i took it to a couple places to get an estimte. the cheapest estimate was 1850.00$ and thats with fixing the door, which i guess it is possible. with a whole new door it would cost 2500.00 (did u know that a passanger door shell cost 1010.00??)

so im kinda paniced here. im thinking that her insurance company is going to try and total my car!!! its in really good condition - the accident. but there is no rust or anything on it.

my question is. what can i do to make it so they wont total it??? i should have had it appraised!! any thoughts?

Try to see if the shop can order a new door from my work. I think they are priced at $800 for a door shell. If your lucky we might have one cheaper with a small ding in our "damaged sheet metal" section.

Also these arent aftermarket they are genuine mercedes.

get a door at a junk yard for $100-150. have it painted to your color and transfer any electrical, and interior trim from your car.
Have your friend pay it cash, that way neither your or her insurance will have to know! and keep both insurance premium low. She will thank you in the long term.

A door at Pull-a-Part is $28.28, Go get two and have the car painted.

You might get lucky at the boneyards and find the same color as yours(unless you have custom paint).

Now that would be cool.

Ja! Junkyard door, have it repainted, and most important... Have the culprit help you with procurement and installation. (and maybe have her smoke after ..uh...umm..."installation"

See, now that's why I avoid smoking. And friends.

These guys have pretty much covered it ... I'd go to a pick and pull and see if you can find a matching door. I would avoid the insurance companies ... if your friend is anything of a friend, she'll offer to pay for it out of pocket, at least what she can. If I ever smashed a friend's car, I'd MAKE them let me pay for it!

I got rear ended in my pickup by a co-worker. She'd been working there for only 3 days and it was her first "real" job.

I was afraid her dad was going to kill her, but I told him no worries, if she can pay for half a bumper at the parts yard and help me pull it, I'm good.

So he handed me a 50 and off we went.
I tried to give him the change back but he said go buy lunch instead

to late heh, already told the insurance company. my permium is already so low whats another 50$ a year?

anyways, i looked at the car this morning, and the left rear quarter panel is going to have to be un-dented 2 and painted.

but u should see her car. she has a 2005 f.o.r.d. mustange GT and the side of her car is trashed. but she is going to try and have it fixed with a previous accident.

i took it to get a quote. one shop quoted me 1865.00 to fix all the damage. they said it would be cheaper for them to fix the door, then to buy a new one. they saud with a new door it would be around 2500. another shop quoted me 19??.00 to do the same. just to fix the door

Ask the shop what they would charge if you provided some new doors. It should be far cheaper to get them from a junkyard.

i read in an earlier thread about someone totaling there car then buying it back from the insurance company for like 100$ and then fixing it with the money they gave him.

think this is somthing i should do?

Here is the goldbook value for a '79 240D (they dont have data for a '83). Yours is probably more valuable because it is a euro.

Fair Good Exc Show Loan
1,700 3,000 4,800 7,000 2,500

I doubt they will total it. The damage value must be greater than the value of the car, and assuming yours is in good shape the car value is more than the highest damage estimate you received.

i went to KBB and they dont go back that far

EDMUNDS. apraised it at 1300 in excellent condition which is bullS*&@$

but i see them on ebay all the time for 2000 for one in cruddy condition
