240D with NOS switch, issue!!

well the title is somewhat accurate. i am having a weird problem with my 240D. i just drove it about 60 miles and noticed that when i have the AC turn knob in the off position and while accelerating i turn it half way on, that i gain all this power and it has a short burst of speed. when i am on the highway, i am flooring the gas pedal and can barely keep it between 65-70. but when i turn the AC on it will go up 4-5mph in like 2 seconds. it acts just like i have NOS... i was using it constantly to get up to speed. whatever gear i am in, if i keep turning it off, wait 10 seconds and then turn it back on, i will get a nice burst of power!

now, someone please tell me why this is happening and what it could be. i am thinking it could be that since the AC does not work it would be slowing down the car. if i would take off the belt it might help.

btw, AC and Cruise control are both busted and all filters and fluids have been changed regularly. it is quite humerous to feel what is going on, and i think i will take a video of it to show you guys that i do have NOS, well sort of. my 0-60 time is somewhere in the 2 minute range, but with the NOS option i can get it closer to 90 seconds.

i feel like if i could get the NOS to be constantly on (in other words find the culprit that is causing the loss of power) then it would feel about as slow as my friends 300D non turbo.

suggestions would be appriciated.

The title had me cracking up! A 240D would be a beast with NOS, migh almost beat a Geo in a drag race!

Nitrous would be good for a 240D. One step below a full turbo. Imagine that 90hp beast and filling up a 20lb bottle every two days.

Sounds like maybe your ac clutch is engaged, and is disengaging when you fiddle with the knob. I'd just pull the belt off.

ya that title was more a joke, and there to get people to read the post. i was thinking of just cutting the belt off and seeing if that changes things.

Well since they don't have much hp to begin with, 3-5 that the compressor takes is a big deal!

Is it an automatic? There is no fixing only replacing.

it is a manual 4 speed tranny. i am not going to be needing my AC, and it is in my beater car anyway. yes, NOS is not recommended in a diesel. Bye bye engine

Then why do some of the modded 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks that can run sub-12 second quarter miles use NOS and propane injection?

It acutally works better on diesels than gasers. Combine that with propane and you have the dynamic duo.

Some the the newer diesel trucks can get over 1000 + lbft or torque with NOS, propane and chip upgrade.

Nitrous works GREAT on diesels. The key is to not inject it all at once in an over fueled condition. All that extra oxygen available within 1 stroke to ignite the extra fuel= lots of broken parts.

VIDEO: Too much nitrous.

Dang that makes me feel a whole lot better about my cooling system issues. At least I don't have to fix that!
