Help to I. D. 300D

Spotted a 300D turbo diesel last night on the way home. It appears to be a late 70's early 80's model. No one was around and the doors were locked but it looks to be in good shape, no rust, good mb-tex, red with tan. I couldn’t see the VIN because of a dashmat; my question is about the bumpers. It has one small main bumper and then smaller bumpers at the corners, both front and rear. Is this a euro? I am going to try and drive by there again tonight or maybe go this weekend. The plates on the car are from 1997 so it has been sitting for a while.
Sorry if this is a basic question, I haven't seen this set up before.
Oh also the climate control is up and down not side to side.
Thanks.

I did a google image search and saw nothing with that set up. Maybe some strange jc Whitney thing.

What I meant by cc being up and down, is on my 300se the push buttons run left to right, in this car they are up and down.

I believe the euro cc has round knobs to control blower and temp.
and I meant search here... above click the drop down for search and type euro and 300D
if you have vertical buttons, are you sure it's not a 300SD 116 body?

When I saw this car I thought it was a 123. I still get the models mixed up but I think it is. Using this sites search as you suggested I found pics of an 80 300d that looks really similar. From what I have found I think that someone stuck those ugly things on at some point.
Thanks for your help.

Seems to me that the versions of the 123 before 1982 or so had the ACC like you describe. That series starts in 1977, I think.

Probably not a euro then, just some weird bumpers. Nice looking car, hopefully he doesn't want a mint for it.
Thanks.

Yes, the vertical buttons are just the older ACC (which can be "challenging" to repair). In any case, it will be a non-turbo. I'm not sure if the last year for that ACC was 80 or 81, but the first year for the W123 300D was 77. I agree, it wouldn't be a euro model with the ACC. No clue about the bumpers though.

Apparently these early versions of ACC have some kind of 'servo' system with all sorts of wires and vacuum and coolant hoses going to them and are a real bear to fix. The manual system that usually appears on European versions is simpler and easier to take care of.

Badged as a Turbo Diesel

[QUOTE=Craig; In any case, it will be a non-turbo.[/QUOTE]

Well that makes it even less interesting, it is badged as a turbodiesel. Someone probably just threw it on there then. Hasn't been registered in ten years to boot. More than I want to take on right now.
If anyone wants me to get more info from the guy let me know. No rust or dents nice red paint good interior.
It is on Southern in Tempe, around 36th I think

That's strange, the first 300D turbo was 82, and they all have the newer (horizontal button) ACC unit, unless it was a W126 300SD?

I am sure it is not a 126, those I can spot, since that is what I currently have. I have been keeping an eye out for a diesel, since joining here and seeing all the great info available. They always scared me before.

I'll try and get some pics this weekend. Whether I can post them here I don't know. Last time I tried I wasn't able, but I'll try.
