Very true. The Bluetec is billed as "The worlds cleanest Diesel."

Yep, thats why its just better in all respects!

New cars are amazingly clean. I mean if you tried to kill yourself buy running it in the garage you had better have a full tank of fuel, because its going to take a looong time.

You would probably run out of air before you get CO poisoned.

I don't who got the speeding ticket but I can easily see how you can get into trouble very quick. The first time that I passed someone on a 2 lane road I was used to punching it. Well I did and before you know it I was doing 95 mph.

The ONLY issue that I've had with the car is the windshield wippers. They make noise. I've contacted the dealer and should get them adjusted fixed at my 13K oil change. Other than this minor issue the car has been fantistic.

On a long trip 300+ miles the computer was consistently at 38.6 MPG with an average speed of 78 MPH. This sucker was meant to be on the road WOT 24/7!!!

All the best

Buy Silblade wipers (or wiper, isn't there only one wiper on a cdi?) and you'll never use OE rubber wipers again. Silblades are silicone and the smoothest, longest lasting wiper on the planet.

I saw a 320cdi yesterday, the first one I've seen actually. I was behind it in my '87 300D and I couldn't pass it was pulling out and gone! No smoke either!

Besides being clean another reason I use biodiesel in all my vehicles (and sailboat) is because it is essentially "carbon neutral", depending on how much fossil fuel was used to produce and transport it. Burning fossil fuel brings carbon from "out of the box" which increases its concentration in the atmosphere.

i think CDI's now have bosch icons
( http://www.boschautoparts.com/Products/WiperBlades/Icon.htm ), i dont know if silblade makes a similar desgin but the icons dont clip in like standard blades. They slide onto a small metal rod and lock into place.

There are pro's and con's to having the bosch icon blade.

pro: they have a type of fin that is pushed down by the wind for a efficient full wipe with one stroke.

con: you cant replace the blade with an insert, so you will have to replace the entire blade and it isnt cheap.

sophie2, if you ever need to replace them though i can get you the blade at a discount from my work. Since your in the area shipping wont be necessary either.

You'll love them - especially if you drive a Yellow Cab (sorry, I just thought of that!)

Probably under the valvecover.

Um, hey... What's the red thing with the zip-ties doing on a CDI?

Doubt it. More powerful, more coventional, more durable, no 4000 dollar batteries to replace, but cleaner? How much NOx does it produce? One of the reasons why Los Angeles looks as it does today.

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse. Once again I wouldn't want a Prius, but I'm not delusional or fanatical about diesels. They are cleaner than ever nowadays but compared to a Prius, which makes zero emissions at stoplights (really the only purpose I see for the Prius is grocery getting), I don't believe it.
