Found the marks. That's awesome!

Good show,

During the summer I had to do a clutch on my 300TD then a friend's 300D. I needed some help as the extra cylinder of the 617 made the job a real pain compared to the 240D.

Here's a loosely related question: While putting the tranny back in, the front of the drive line got caught on the tranny yoke and pulled the driveline apart. (Luckily I had the two halves marked from an earlier job when I thought I would have to separate the two halves, but didn't.)

Is the driveline supposed to just separate like that? I always thought that there was a nut near the carrier that was supposed to lock the two halves together? If so, clearly that wasn't tight, which hasn't proved to be a big deal, since I've been driving around like this for god-knows how long.

Not a problem, lucky you had them marked. The manual says after putting the drive shaft back together to "lower the car, roll it back and forth a couple times and then tighten the big nut". Not an exact quote but thats the idea.

Tighten the big nut. Check. I suspect that the big nut wasn't too tight to begin with since it pulled apart so easily. But dualy noted.

I accidentally pulled the D/S apart while doing an engine swap on my 79 240D and I hadn't marked it. Got another D/S from a friend, I always mark em now;) I don't think its unusual to find them easy to pull apart.

This job keeps going. In addition to replacing the clutch, I also replaced the slave cylinder and attempted to bleed the system. I then realized that the master was also leaking, so I replaced that too. I subsequently realized that the braided hose that connects the master to the reservoir was shot and leaking, so now I need to replace that. Does anybody have the specs on this hose (specifically diameter, type, etc.) and have any recommendations on where to get it? Does it need to be braided?

you can also make it work with some aftermarket brake line flex hose adapted. I used a stainless steel braided brake flex line and adapted it to the clutch line. Reason this option might be attractive is the cost of the MB part is not cheap.

This is part of the brake system.

10-4. I managed to find the braided hose at a local foreign parts house. Got there 3 minutes after they were supposed to close, but lucked out. :D:D:D

It took me longer than I care to admit, but I drove the MB to work today, and the new clutch, master, and slave appear to be working great. Thanks to everyone for the advise. Without this forum and the free flowing knowledge, I'm sure I would have given up on this car a long time ago.

Good to know you are back on the road.

How much did the hose cost?

About $8/meter. Turned out not to be too bad at the local foreign parts store.
