Nice, are these your pictures or did you just find them somewhere? So essentially this engine was like the VE TDI engine, except it probably had 4 valves per cylinder instead of 2 and a timing chain of course.

It's basically a direct injection 5-cylinder OM602. It was bored and stroked to 2.9L The same thing they did to the 3.5L OM603. (3.5/6= 0.583L per cylinder. 2.9/5=0.58L per cylinder.)
