What direction does the Driveshaft spin?

If you are facing the car, the engine turns clockwise, does the driveshaft also rotate clockwise? (assuming car is traveling forward)

I just cant see it alone.

thanks!

Guaranteed!

I'll guarantee three things. That with the engine running and transmission in neutral the drive shaft will not turn, that in reverse it will turn opposite the engine and that in any forward gear it is turning the same way as the engine.

be carefull, on a lift, or with the back wheels off the ground, the driveshaft can indeed turn in neutral. ya better have that brake on!

this is some sort of oddball (euro?) flex disc, I've searched the archives here and I've not seen a picture of one like it...

shot from the tranny side, see the raised 'bumper' on the right side of the hole? (note the brand new odometer cable!)

heres a shot from below...

http://rbk3.com/mbz/IMG_1653.JPG

you can see the 'bumper' in profile. I believe the bumper should indicate the direction of travel, sadly on this occaision it shows CCW.

The old flex disc was so really chewed up, but the writing faced toward the rear of the car, so I installed this new one the same way, but now I'm thinking that the reason the old disk was so chewed up is that it was installed backwards, and now I'm gonna have the same problem.

I'm sure someone else here has seen that type before. I have done the discs on my 240D and 300DT and 420SEL and none of them looked like that. Maybe the place you got them from would know?? I can't imagine them being directional though.

I know for sure I've seen them on 202's. I never checked but I guess my euro 300TD would have those too, I've never even looked under the car yet
