My opinion on this topic can be found here:

W123 Windshield Job

I have done 2 W123 rear glass jobs and just 2 weekends ago I did my W116. The W116 was the easiest ever, taking about 5-10 minutes- it went in like a charm with non-OEM rubber.

Yes, IMO you can do it yourself and you can buy used rear glass out of a W123.

The rear glass on a W123 is thin and the first time you do this will be scary.

Is there any consensus as to which glass manufacturer has the best replacement windshield? Ol' Yeller ('83 300D) still has the original Sekurit and it is very pitted.

Charlie;

Thanks for the link for the windshield and rear window gaskets.

Everyone;

I'm still looking for opinions about the windshield glass: OEM Sekurit versus alternatives. Don't be bashful!

Hi I am in the market for a new windshield in my 240d. Are the URO seals ok? What other options are there if they are not so good?

I don't like URO and have had bad experiences with their front end parts, but I gave in and bought their rear window seal on a gamble. Went in well. I let the seal hang in my heated garage for a couple days to get the kinks out and to take shape. My bro in law and I did the string method with plenty of dish soap for lube, put the trim on before install (this was the hardest part, keeping it in the channel during install) and it surprised me how smooth it went in to the car. So far after several months it's holding up well and leak free. I also used plumbers putty around the outside channel. Now I need to do the front seal, it's not leaking but is dry rotted. Still debating if I want to try it.
