SLS Pump Rebuild Kit or Components?

Y'all,

The SLS pump on my '84 300td has decided to join the "leak party" that is my engine compartment. It's nice that the leaking SLS fluid has cleaned off some of the other grunge, but it's not nice that I've lost nearly half the fluid in the reservoir over the last few days.

Now, along with rebuilding the height regulation valve in the rear, I need to rebuild the SLS pump. However, it seems that the farthest I can drill down on the Detali.ru 13 POWER STEERING PUMP/105 RADIAL PISTON PUMP page is to the pump level itself. There are three seals/gaskets shown (items 8, 11, and 20, which are 004-997-01-47, 010-997-43-45, and 114-236-00-80 respectively), but I can't tell from the diagram if any of them will help me with the leaks. Should I get these three and/or any others? Are there any other gaskets or seals available for the SLS pump body?

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

Uh oh!! I might have some semi-bad news. The SLS pump consists of 2 halves, with a seal in the middle. That seal is NOT AVAILABLE!!! Anywhere! The 3 you reference above are not the one I am referring to.
The pump I had on the Flash leaked right in the middle of the 2 halves, so I disassembled it and tried everywhere, including dealerships to find the gasket. The dealer didn't show it in their system. It is a part of the pump, which of course is around $1200 bucks!
Some outstanding forum member sold me a pump for $50 bucks, and it worked like a charm. I can't remember who it was [sorry ], but they really did me a solid! They also pop up on ebay from time to time, and seem to go +/- in the $100 buck range, usually slightly less.
Make sure it isn't the hose or the crush washers at the pump.

I just bought a used pump on Ebay for $50 to keep as a spare. Can that gasket be made?

I kept the halves. It is actually a fairly thick o'ring type gasket, not flat really. I used to have pics before the great laptop crash of '07......
BTW, that was a wise purchase you made.

Considering the cost of a new pump....I bet you could contract a company to make you some custom gaskets for a looot less $$ than a new pump costs.

Thanks for confirming my worst suspicions, Y'all!

I guess I'll have to take the thing apart and see if McMaster-Carr has anything that matches. If not, I'll see if I can machine the pieces to accept a standard o-ring.

Jimmy, as best as you can remember, did the profile of the o-ring look like this?

Here are some pics to give you an idea. I think mine is mashed so flat that it doesn't seal the 2 halves. It is also elongated, and won't fit into the groove that it normally lives in.

In the pictures, it looks like a pretty standard O-ring. Did you look for any that fit?

Ahhh, thank you again very much. I hate that we have such a limited storage space for our private messages. I had copied them to MS Word documents, but the great laptop crash of 2 weeks ago wiped all that info out......
Somewhere that pump is on the front of a wagon just smoking it's arse off........
