Question All of my door panels are off...what else should I do?

All my panels are off for fixing my locks and windows, which are almost done. I plan to button them up soon, and I never want to take them off again

What else should I do while they are off as preventative maintenance? Anything come to mind that Ill regret not doing later?

Should I put white lithium grease on the door lock mechanism?
Grease the window track somewhere?

Thanks!
dd

you might want to install some dynamat to the outer door skins while you have access to them. MASSIVE better sound suppression, and if you ever put speakers in the doors, you will REALLY love the sound.

what are you doing to the windows? don't forget to check the regulator bolts, and grease the plastic window slides. put some grease on the door checks too.

Bar and Chain Oil

If it were me i would put a light coat and Bar and Chain Oil (yes the stuff for chain saws) inside which will prevent them from ever rusting from the inside out, or if there is any rust it will stop it in its tracks.

Grease the lower slide of the window lift mechanism.
Spray wax in the interior or a good rust preventative.
Grease the window lift mechanism gears where the motor turns the assembly.
Replace all the rubber vacuum connectors.
Replace the vacuum lock elements.
Sound deadening if you want.

Check the rubber boots that go from the door jam to the door. They carry the vacuum hoses and electrics. When they leak they fill your floor boards full of water. They are only a dealer item and not cheap but they are essential.

Also check the window slides. They wear out towards the bottom of the track and will cause the window to bind as it goes up.

Maybe swap in some manual cranks so you dont have to worry about the window motors dying on you.

Dave, can I get spray wax in a can so-to-speak, or I do I need to mix it up and spray it hot?

Taking the door panels off is a 5 minute job- why limit yourself to saying you never want them off again? Things break in there- even with the best preventative measures.

grease your door hinges, and the door check, often times they get dry and they snap!

Well true, I just want to do it right while Im staring at the insides. I am going to have to fabricate new plastic moisutre barriers (PO must have felt they werent really needed on two of the doors), so I dont know how much I will want to take those off once they are one.

spray wax, how do you do that. Good Bar and Chain oil has wax parrifins in it. I use the same spray gun you would use for spraying chip gaurd on the rocker panels with. Pretty easy if you have am air compressor. Some have used a paint brush with success. Yes, I does drip, especially when the temps get up in the summer time. Should only have to do the doors one time as its not like the oil is going anywhere.

the door check is the metal strap that keeps the door from swinging wildly as you open it. it is below the wire bundle in the hinge area.
and if you are going to soundproof the doorskins, add an additional layer of dynamat (you have unlimited funds right?) to the inner skin as well, it makes an excellent vapor barrier, and it will REALLY keep down the road noise with an additional layer.

hmm, that's not good... has the car been in an accident? the lower hinge looks factory location, the upper looks like somebody took a crowbar to it...
are you having issues with the door latching or movement from full open to the close position?
