What does diesel purge do?

I saw the thread about diesel purge, but I never got a clear answer on this. What does diesel purge do? There's some stuff you put in your tank to help clean the injectors. Is this the same stuff?

no, you put it directly into the Injector pump bypassing the fuel tank.
it cleans out the injectors, and the prechambers, and the piston/combustion chambers to a certain extent. generally good stuff. physically rebuilding the items is better, but MUCH more expensive and timeconsuming.

It's snake oil

It is a harmless snake oil, won't hurt, won't help. Does have two other benefits. It makes the owner feel real good and of course the retailer loves you spending very much.

Ditto what John replied.....
Diesel Kleen is the less potent stuff that you add to your fuel tank on occassion. Its more of a preventative lite cleaning additive and does not do as thorough a job as the Diesel Purge that you run directly through your IP and Injectors. Running the vehicle on a tank of commercial Biodiesel will also do a very good job of cleaning and lubricating. Always make sure you have an extra fuel filter in case they clog up.

I checked all 6 injectors for $70 which includes disassembling one and cleaning it. If you can get the tools, it is much better. think about this. all 10 times you use the DP, can you be sure that you have done enough? I took the injectors out at 100K and I KNOW I have done it right.

My car has been running kinda sluggish lately so I opted to do a diesel purge before I change my fuel filters soon, just to see if it will make a difference. The last time I did it it really helped, and I was good for over 30k. The purge is cheap, if it doesn't work I will look into having my injectors rebuilt with bosio nozzles sometime in the next couple months. I ordered 4 cans of the stuff from a website selling it for $5.47 a can, not bad at all. I've only done it once before over 2.5 years ago, and it DID help, so maybe it will again. I'm going to do run two cans, then change both filters. We'll see.

My question is this. Lets say it does clean stuff out. How do you know it cleaned out ALL the junk and not part of it. By the time you do it every 30K, isn't it better labor wise for me to do it all at say 100K and know what the pressure and pattern is instead of guessing what it is after all the cost and work?

actually, the DP will not fix injector problems that require cleaning, but it will help some with injector problems, but what it does that BRAND NEW injectors will not fix is it cleans out the prechambers, and the combustion chambers. if you want to just rebuild the injectors, put some marvel mystery oil in the pc's and let it settle for a day or so, then flush some pb blaster or WD-40 through with the injectors out, crank over the motor and this will make a really poor running car run really well.
or just dump in the DP and let it do it's magic for less work.

We've discussed this before and you have never perfromed a DP on your car....perhaps had you done so you wouldnt have had to pull yours at only 100K?

My inj's (in the same model car/engine as yours) are doing fine at 202K; I've spent $25/200k on DP to date; you've spent $70/100K testing and have already had to have one rebuilt.

DP helps inj's that exhibit a marginal spray pattern. Is not a cure all by any means but is a reasonable PM product IMO.

Mind you, I'm not against testing and in fact have a pop tester of my own and will test mine in the near future, just for fun.

Lubro Moly vs Liqui Moly

One web site maintains that the latter is simply a new name for the former. But, I have seen many other locations that list Lubro Moly products for sale. Is there a difference?

Lubri Molly or STP or other?

I had the same question someone posted above. I wondered if the Lubri Molly product that you add in your tank (not the stuff for direct clean into the injectors), was any better than the STP or other stuff sold at Auto Zone.

The thing is, my car runs quite smoothly, its just a little down on power...probably clogged filters (they're 30k old) but I am doing a purge just in case to clean out the prechambers and such a little bit before I replace the filters. My car can still hit 113mph flat out, so its not "running poorly" or anything. Its interesting to hear how smooth it runs with the diesel purge too.
