I'm guessing I have some air trapped in my cooling system as I changed all hoses and refilled system, now heat gauge goes up on long grades and it did not before I changed the hoses.
How do I get the trapped air out if that's what the cause is?
Thanks....... William Rogers....

Wow, this one goes back a ways.

Someone on another forum suggested adding water with the engine running and the defroster on. That seemed to work for me.

William,

I've never had trouble with this as long as I filled with the engine running.

If you still have trouble, some thermostat housings have a bleed screw on them, but I think I've seen that on the 124 gas engines not diesels. Failing that, you can just crack the hose a little near the thermostat housing and see if you can bleed it a little.

Good luck,

wow, that question was answered almost 4 years later...lol.

I usually take the upper hose off after filling the system and dump water in there too untill it overflows. Long ago a mb mechanic told me to lift the front end of the car and run the engine untill it burps out the air.

Removing a temp sensor from the housing while filling should work just as good. Replace once the air is out, crank and run engine while topping off.
