what's this sender???
The 616 motor I'm using for a project has two electrical senders along the head - along the axis of the glow plugs. My 240td has only one sender... the one towards the rear of the motor. what is the other one? both look identical, with the same plug-on style connection.
Thanks. |

From threads about converting older style loop plugs to newer pencil plugs, it has been reported that there is some other sensor related to the functioning of the early loop style plugs. Perhaps this additional sensor is what you see.

On my 80 240, it origionally had (and still now has) the pencil type plugs, it had 2 sensors along the head, first one between #1&2 glow plugs, 2nd one between #3&4. One of those sensors will be marked with "NTC" in the etching along the brass nut faces. One of the sensors controls your temp gauge on the dash, the other one controls the timing of the GP relay in relation to engine heat. I can't remember offhand without dashing out to look, but I believe the NTC one was for the relay. you should be able to look at your TD to see which one is used for the dash gauge.

That's correct. I can't remember which does what either. Both my 79 616 and 80 617 turbo had two sensors.
