Does that Febi oil look expensive now?
Yup.

I have 2 spare pumps in the garage. I paid less than $10/ea.

I am concerned w/ the 2 perfectly good used $8 accumulators I just installed. and the struts. which I dont have spares of yet. but I have a spare valve.

now- the bit about the pump taking out the T chain- that is another concern.....

up to this point, I have always recommended to use febi, too. But I am loosing fluid somewhere, and dont want to pour the $20/l stuff on the driveway. I also dont want to loose sleep about not flushing everything out of the system.

The Febi stuff appears to be ISO-46 hydraulic fluid with some nice color added to it. The two have identical specifications and MSDSs. I've had ISO-46 in my 300TD for a year and a half with no issues. JD Hygard is more viscous than ISO-46 - what the long term effects of that on the pump are debatable.

I paid $50 for a used pump off eBay.

The fluid I've been buying is crystal clear, just like power steering fluid. What color have you been seeing?

The little that was left inside the reservoir looked yellow (like Febi 02615). Then the fellow I bought it from threw in some green fluid labeled for Jaguar - so who really knows.

I would really like to know where you found the specs for the Febi. I can't find anything, very top secret.

The MSDS means nothing except that no additives in either are harmful and that mineral based oils are also impotent.
