Sprinter 2.7l I-5 vs. 3.0l V-6 CDI?
I'm thinking about downsizing the fleet a little and getting a Sprinter to replace my Dodge pickup and Suburban with one vehicle-which Mercedes diesel do you pros think would be the best one to get-the V-6 in the '07 or the inline in the older ones-the V-6 would probably have a little more power, but I think the inline would easier to work on (and as we all know, the inline M-B diesels are legendary performers, not sure about the V-6 ones yet) What do you guys (and girls) think?

my neighbors father in law has one of the I-5 sprinters.. I drove it.. its awesome and pretty fast for a delivery van (he uses it for work and as a personal vehicle)
He had the glow plugs done at the dealer and one got stuck in the head.. mercedes ended up replacing the head no charger after a long drawn out complaint thing.. But. If you cant wait go for the I-5... Me.. I would wait for the V-6 |

I'd wait for the V6. It's the same engine as in the E/R/GL/ML320 CDI's so you know it can be tuned from it's ~160hp to over 200hp with simple chip tuning.

A number of Outdoor and SKi Reps. in the Northeast have bought the In-Line 2.7 litres and they are a rugged "work horse". Some of my retail accounts also have them now to use as distribution vans to move retail product out to their store locations. The 2.7 ltr. is a proven engine........

Tons of torque in the Sprinter version of the 2.7 I5 but because of that don't expect to go much faster than 80 mph on the highway. City and highway performance is really good...just that max speed problem if you like to drive fast.
The towing capacity is something ridiculous for such a small engine.
