How much miles on 1 tank of fuel?

I just started driving my Mercedes 300D Turbo Diesel, after it stood in my garage for like 1 or 2 years after I bought it. And last Thursday I filled up the fuel tank and after one week of driving, it is almost empty at like 310 miles. It has a little less than 1/4 of tank left. I thought that these cars were supposed to get like 500 miles on one tank. Or is that highway miles, because I do mostly city driving. Any ideas?

Your gauge means nothing. You need to fill it up and do the math. Even then it may not be correct as MB odometers are often broken or not accurate, especially if its a 123 or 126.

I go 600mi on 19.5 gals on mine quite often. Weekly in fact.

Over 600 miles with some city thrown in. 33 mpg max with a theoretical cruising speed of 85.

When I drove one tank I could go about 450 miles @28.5 MPG.
1600 now and 2,050 miles in summer WVO in diesel tank and two tanking.

Are we talking about a W123 or a W124? My W123 300D averages in the mid-20's and will get something over 400 miles on a tank without running it down to nothing. The gauge usually reads around 1/4 after about 300 miles of 80 mph highway driving. I normally fill-up at about 250-375 miles anyway. The W123 tank holds about 21 gallons, so it "should" get 500 miles, but I've never tried to push it. A W124 300D should get better mileage.

On my 84 300SD the highway cruising range was over 500mi. at almost 29mpg....the 87 300SDL was slightly higher. And I can push the 98 E300TD to well over 600mi. at 34-35mpg at a steady 70mph.
"City" driving can very so much........I would say it drops my mpg at least 25-30%. I can make any economy "cummuter can" hemorage fuel in stop and go traffic!

If your car has been sitting for that long it probably just needs to blow the carbon out. Don't make any judgements based on the first tank. You may want to check valve lash and do an adjustment at some point. ....it can make all the difference in the world.

I burl less fuel driving 100miles on the highway, than 25 miles in the city... My driving style doesn't exactly suit city driving, especially in a heavy car.. My tendency is to floor the gas at a traffic light and accelerate up to as fast as I'm gonna go asap...

Hmmm.. I get around 400 miles to a fill up on my SD mix use. Maybe I need to check IP timing, just did the valves.

I get about 250-275 miles per tank on 10-11.5gallons.

It lasts me an average of two weeks worth of driving.

Currently have a range of 400 miles at 15 gallons poured in. I realize I could pour in more, up to 20 gallons total (on the safe side). If I do that, I could increase my range to 533 miles @ 26.6mpg.

If I drive highways mostly, I could get 29mpg at 75mph. That would give me a range of 580miles.

It could be a problem with ....

You said the car sat for 2 years. It could be it's filled up with algae. It's my understanding that stuff will take up some space. Get rid of that so you have a clean tank to start with.

I get about 30 mpg city/hwy combined in metro Atlanta, 28 just city with no a/c, 26 with a/c, and 36 mpg on just hwy miles. So on combined when I'm getting 30 mpg, from full tank to just before running out, I get 465 miles, just guessing I have another 1/2 gallon left at that point, but who wants to chance it, right? So if I really wanted to push it by topping it off on fill up (which I don't do), and running it til it's juuuuust about to run out of fuel, yes, I think I could get 500 miles.

If your fuel gauge is not working right, they're easy to fix, see my post on the DIY forum.
