4 Speed Manual to 5 Speed Manual Swap
I am not expecting many replies on this but for those of you lucky enough to have been around the 5 speed getrags, perhaps an answer may be available.
If the 4 speed manual were exchanged for a 5 speed, would the shift assembly need to be changed due to the different shift pattern and position of reverse? |

![]() So the trans, shifter, rods hydraulic lines everything else would have to be found even with an existing 4SP manual in place? |

Not sure about the hydraulic line but add "drive shaft" too the list. Best too have the "doner' car. You cant buy the whole car?

That seems somewhat optimistic with the stock motor. Perhaps with a OM603?

The link would be good , I can't find it. I'm curious. I'd like to have 1 or 2 more gears in my 83 300SD, doesn't have to be manual, can be automatic, but it definitely needs at least 1 more gear. It's sluggish off the line and it revs to high at around 80. 1 more gear and possibly a rear end gear swap would make this car both more fun to drive and comfortable

I agree with stevo. The hydraulic line should be the same. The additional gear will probably not increase the top end much if any...unless you add power to the engine somehow.
A very nice swap. In this case, I suspect a ds from an automatic equipped car might be about the right length. We are in the process of swapping a four speed manual into my 82 300cd right now and it appears that the ds from a 240 automatic front half will be the right length for it. Good luck. Tom W
